MS-Excel has both the shortcuts available to close the current workbook only or to close the entire Excel application which will close all opened workbooks in one go.

So that the user can choose if he wants to close only the current workbook or the all opened workbooks in one go using the keyboard shortcut.

The keyboard shortcuts to close the current workbook or all opened workbooks are mentioned below:

To Close the Workbook:

Ctrl + W or Alt + F4

To Close Excel Application:

AltFX

Steps to Close the Workbook(s) Using Keyboard Shortcut

  1. First, go to the workbook which you want to close out of the opened ones.
  2. After that, simply press the “Ctrl + W” keys or the “Alt + F4” keys and your current workbook will be closed.
  3. Or, go to any opened workbook and simply press the “Alt → F → X” keys in sequence and all the opened workbooks will get closed in one go.

In case you make any change in Excel like entering the value, changing or updating any cell, and miss saving the workbook before closing, it will ask you to close by saving the changes or without saving the changes.
