How to Remove Pagebreak in Excel (Those Dotted Lines)

Page break in Excel is a feature that splits or divides your worksheet data into separate pages for printing.

It breaks and shows you the data to be printed on a single and each page to the end of your data.

Excel page break splits the data based on multiple settings like page margin, scale, the size of the page, etc.

Page Break view shows the dotted lines to see where the data gets split to the next page.

Before printing the workbook data, every user wants to see how the data gets printed on each page, and for that, they can see it by changing the normal Excel view to page break view and can also adjust the page break selection as per their preference.

Below we have captured some easy and quick steps for you on how to insert and remove the page break in Excel.

Open the Page Break view in Excel

1. First, go to the “View” tab, and under the “Workbook Views” group click on the “Page Break Preview” icon.
   
2. Once you click on “Page Break Preview”, Excel converts the normal view into page break view.
   
3. Here, you can see how your workbook data gets split on each page when you print.

Adjust the Page Breaks in Excel

1. Click on the vertical dotted page break line, hold the mouse button, and drag to the left or right place up to which column you want the data headers to be split for printing on each page.
2. Click on the horizontal dotted page break line(s) and hold the mouse button and drag to the upside or downside place up to which you want the data to be printed on each page.
   
3. If you want all the header columns of your data to be printed on each page, just drag the vertical dotted line to the end of the header columns.
   

In the above image, we have dragged the vertical dotted line to the end of header columns to print all the headers columns (A-J) on each page.

Insert or Remove the Manual inserted Page Break

You can also insert or remove the manual page breaks within the page break view by doing the below steps.

1. First switch to the page break view and click on the cell to the left and upside of which you want to insert the page break.
   
2. After that go to the “Page Layout” tab and then click on the “Breaks” icon under the “Page Setup” group and then click on the “Insert Page Break” option.
   
3. Once you click on “Insert Page Break”, Excel divided and creates the manual page break to the left and upside of your selected cell.
   
4. Now, to remove the manually inserted page break you need to click on the cell to the left and upside of which you want to remove the manually inserted page break and click on the “Remove Page Break” option.
   
5. At this point, the manually inserted page break has been removed.
   

If you have inserted multiple manual page breaks, you can remove that all in one go by just clicking on the “Reset All Page Breaks” options or you can remove them one by one by doing the above-explained steps again and again.

Remove the Dotted Page Break lines from Normal View

Once you come back to the normal view from the page break view, the Excel page break view gets activated automatically.

And the dotted and bold gray page break line gets start reflecting in your data so to remove those lines from the normal view, you need to do some steps as mentioned below.

1. First, click on the “File” tab and then click on “options” from the pop-up menu.
   
   
2. After that click on the “Advanced” and scroll down to “Display options for this worksheet” from the scroll bar.
3. Now, uncheck the “Show page breaks” and click “OK.
