While working in Excel, many users want to delete unnecessary or unwanted row(s) to make the data clear and clean. For this, Excel can delete the row(s) at a time. Deleting a row is as easy as adding it to Excel. The row can be deleted manually or using keyboard shortcuts.

Keyboard Shortcut to Delete Row in the Excel

  • Select any cell in the row you want to delete. Press Shift + Space to select the entire row. And in the end, press use the below mentioned keys:
    • Windows : Ctrl + Minus Sign (-)
    • Mac: Command + Minus Sign (-)

Steps to Delete Row(s) using a Keyboard Shortcut

  1. First, press the “Shift + Spacebar” shortcut keys to select the entire row, and then simply press the “Ctrl + Minus Sign (-) to delete that selected row.
  2. Or, click on any cell of the row that you want to delete and press the shortcut keys “Ctrl + Minus Sign (-)”.
  3. In case you have multiple non-sequential rows to delete, press and hold the “Ctrl” key and click on any cell on each row one by one that you want to delete and then press shortcut keys “Ctrl + Minus Sign (-)”.

  4. After that, you will get the “Delete” dialog box opened and with the help of the Down Arrow key, select the “Entire row” radio button.
  5. Now, press the “Enter” key and you will get those rows deleted.

One common mistake is not selecting the entire row before pressing the delete shortcut, which can lead to deleting to open the delete dialog box instead of deleting.
