What is the use of Excel COUNTA Function?
Use Excel COUNTA Function to count non-blank cells. In simple words, COUNTA Function can count the cell which has any type of value in it.
Syntax for Excel COUNTA Function
COUNTA(value1, [value2], …)
value1 A value, a cell reference, a range of cells or an array. [Required]
[value2] A value, a cell reference, a range of cells or an array. [Optional]

- It will count cell which has
- A text
- A number
- A formula
- A cell with a formula resulting in an empty cell.
- A symbol
- An error
- You can provide up to 255 arguments.
- You can also insert arguments directly into the function.
Examples to understand Excel COUNTA Function
In above example, I have used COUNTA Function to count cells from range A1:A11. There are total 11 cells in the range & function has return 10 in the result. I have one blank cell in the range which is ignored by the function. In rest of the cells, I have numbers, text, logical value & a symbol.
